Paul grew up in Redan and attended Redan Elementary School, Stone Mountain High School and Georgia State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and continued in the Reserves for several years afterward. He worked for the Sears & Roebuck Co. in Atlanta before leaving to help open the DuPont paint and chemical manufacturing plant in Tucker. He retired from DuPont with 28 years of service and went to work for Devoe Paints in Stone Mountain, where he enjoyed a second retirement 13 years later. Paul also had a building and remodeling business for many years.

He married his high school sweetheart, Annette Haney on August 19, 1956. The family was active at The First Baptist Church of Redan, where Paul grew up and where he taught Sunday School and was later ordained a deacon. He loved to hunt, fish, work in his garden and play the guitar, especially with the praise band at his beloved Woodlake Baptist Church. He played in bands most of his life, including the Highway 36 Band and Country Gentlemen Band. His specialty song was “Under the Double Eagle.” Almost 20 years ago, Paul and his family were among the founding families of Woodlake Baptist Church in the Walnut Grove community.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Paul at Woodlake Baptist Church on Saturday, August 10, with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation to the Woodlake Baptist Church Building Fund, 3940 Georgia Highway138, Covington, GA 30014.
